Justice for Victims
Every American enjoys certain federal constitutional and statutory rights. Those rights are not to be unlawfully violated by the police or any other government agent. If you have been the victim of a false arrest, excessive force, police brutality, unlawful search or seizure, a wrongful conviction, or some other unlawful conduct by the police or another government agent, you may be entitled to redress and compensation for the deprivation of your constitutional or statutory rights. Federal law allows individuals who have suffered unlawful conduct at the hands of the police to seek justice.

A "Section 1983" lawsuit refers to a civil suit filed under 42 U.S.C. § 1983, which is a federally enacted statute that enables private citizens to seek redress for the deprivation of constitutional and other federal statutory rights at the hands of the police or other governmental actors who are acting under the color of law. Section 1983 was enacted as part of the Civil Rights Act of 1871 to protect private citizens against certain governmental abuses by providing them with a civil remedy for violations of federal law by people acting under the color of law.
